CHOIR FAQS
Do I need to audition?
There are no auditions for LCC. We are an open community choir, so all we ask for is an interest in singing, a willingness to try, and a positive attitude! All choir singers will also be asked to sign our Community Guidelines & Waiver. These include our core values of never shaming any other singer, leaving politics at the door, and understanding that this is a group experience: "WE > me = Harmony." We are a supportive, joyful, encouraging community.
What if I've never sung in a choir before?
This choir was created for ALL to participate. There is a true mix of all singing abilities and experiences: complete beginners, hobby singers, and pros! Everyone is welcome, and the rehearsals are fun and casual, with all singing tailored to meet you at your individual level of skill and ability. We learn by ear, so there is never any sheet music.
What if I can't make some of the rehearsals?
That's totally cool! There are no attendance requirements if you do not plan to perform in the concert. The journey is the destination! If you do plan to perform in the concert, the special technical / band rehearsal is the only mandatory rehearsal. We just ask if you miss a rehearsal, to learn what was taught by listening to the the teaching and practice audio files which are posted to a shared Dropbox folder after each rehearsal.
What if I'm away on the date of the concert?
That's also cool! The journey is the destination! The concert is just a bonus.
What are the songs this season?
The theme this season is "Can't Stop the Music!" We don’t reveal the full set list until the first rehearsal—it’s part of the magic! But each season's songs center around the new theme and are comprised of popular music from a wide range of genres and decades. Some songs are instantly recognizable, some might be new discoveries, and occasionally we include newly composed pieces as well. *If you need to know the exact songs in advance to decide whether or not to join, this probably isn’t the right fit. We invite you to trust the process—most singers come to love the full set by concert time, especially once they hear it in our unique arrangements.
What if I'm not sure which vocal part I should sing?
That's totally OK! When you sign up, we ask which voice section you think you might want to sing—Highers, Mids, or Lowers—but that’s just to give us a general idea. Nothing is locked in! We do things a little differently than traditional choirs: you get to choose your own voice part based on what feels good to you. We'll explain how it all works at the first rehearsal, and you’ll have a few weeks to listen, try things out, and settle into the section that feels right. Many singers even switch sections in future seasons—just for fun!
Will I need to practice outside of rehearsal?
To get the most out of the experience (and to help the group sound its best), we ask that all members take time between sessions to review their parts using the audio learning files we provide. Consistent weekly listening and singing along can make a big difference in how confident and prepared you feel.
An optional sectional rehearsal will also be arranged for extra support, and we strongly recommend attending if you’re able.
If you don’t think you’ll have time to keep up between rehearsals during the choir season, then our off-season workshop series and one-day singing events might be a better fit.
.
Where are rehearsals?
We have six separate choirs this season, each based in a different L.A. neighborhood. Every choir rehearses independently and performs its own concert. We recommend choosing the location or schedule that’s most convenient for you.
Exact addresses are shared only with registered members and will be sent shortly before the season begins. Rehearsal venues and neighborhoods may shift due to availability or unforeseen issues beyond our control. *If you need to know the exact rehearsal addresses before deciding to join, please do not register.
Many of our rehearsal spaces are community halls within churches, synagogues, or other institutions, and occasionally we may rehearse in a sanctuary or main hall. These venues are among the few in Los Angeles large enough to host us, and we’re deeply grateful to the organizations that rent to us.
As part of our core community guidelines, we ask everyone to leave politics at the door. Our rehearsals are dedicated to music, joy, and human connection—not debate or division. We welcome people of all backgrounds and beliefs, and we do not tolerate discrimination, hostility, or shaming of any kind toward our hosts or one another.
*If rehearsing in spaces affiliated with various religious or cultural institutions conflicts with your personal views, this program may not be the right fit. Our focus is on harmony in every sense of the word.
Will Greg be at every rehearsal?
Our founder and director, Greg Delson, will be leading each of our six choirs this season! He will be at a majority of the rehearsals for all six choirs, but will not be at every single rehearsal. That being said, we have an amazing team of dynamic, experienced, joyful conductors who all understand the importance of our inclusive, supportive culture, and who are excited to share the joy of group singing and FUN!
What if I can't afford the membership?
We've priced the registration in consideration of all it requires to run a rewarding 9-week experience for a large group, and our registration fee is on the low end when it comes to similar groups and memberships. We understand that everyone has their own unique financial situation.
Can my child participate, or can I bring a pet or a guest?
This choir and all rehearsals are for adult humans only (18+). Choir rehearsals are strictly for members only. Due to insurance and safety, there cannot be any exceptions
Can I switch to a different choir location after registering?
We understand that plans can change! If you’d like to request a switch to a different choir location, we offer a Switch Waitlist for current registrants. The waitlist operates on a first-come, first-served basis and depends on space availability. If you’re a registered member and would like to join the Switch Waitlist, please email us. Please note that switches are not guaranteed, and our Refund Policy – Spring 2026 still applies. We also kindly ask that all members register with the intent to attend their selected choir.
What are the COVID protocols?
There are currently no local, state, or federal COVID guidelines in place for gatherings like ours, so we do not have any formal testing or masking requirements this season.
That said, all members agree, through our Community Guidelines & Waiver, to stay home if they’re feeling sick, out of care and respect for the group.
*If you know you wouldn’t feel comfortable participating in a large group setting without specific precautions in place, we completely understand, and we’d love to welcome you in a future season when the timing feels better for you.
What happens if a rehearsal or event gets canceled?
We’re a small arts organization doing our best to provide a smooth and joyful experience. That said, in rare and unexpected cases—like illness, venue issues, extreme weather, or other emergencies (force majeure)—a rehearsal or event may be canceled.
If that happens, make-up sessions may not be possible, and no refunds or credits will be issued. We appreciate your understanding as we work to keep things fair and sustainable for the whole community.
What is the refund policy?
We understand that plans change. Once you register, however, a lot of preparation begins on our end—from staffing and venue reservations to licensing and materials—so we follow the tiered refund schedule below:
-
100% refund (minus processing fees) through Sunday, December 21, 2025
-
50% refund (minus processing fees) through Sunday, January 11, 2026
-
25% refund (minus processing fees) up to 48 hours after the first rehearsal
-
No refunds after that — no exceptions
Please note: payment processors such as Stripe and Corsizio do not return their processing and credit-card fees when we issue refunds. Those fees are permanently deducted from your original payment.
Running a large, joyful, and well-supported community choir involves real up-front costs. This policy helps us stay sustainable, fair, and focused on making the experience great for everyone.
We do not offer roll-overs or prorated memberships.

Anything else I should know?
Yes! All Landlights Choir spaces are politics-free. Whatever your beliefs are outside, when we rehearse, perform, or gather, we’re coming together as human beings who enjoy singing together. One of our agreements is to leave politics at the door whenever we gather.
We value kindness, flexibility, and a sense of shared purpose. You may not know every song, and things won’t always be perfect, and that’s part of the beauty.
*If you're someone who thrives in a highly individualized or high-touch environment, this may not be the right fit. We aim to keep things flowing smoothly for everyone, and we appreciate members who are able to roll with the group and trust the process. Around here, it’s WE > me = Harmony.
